This was actually a part of my Ask Link Blog, but I cut the dialogue and the question out. I just want to focus on the art, this time.

I genuinely feel that this is the best SNES Link I've drawn to date.

For the record, the question was "How do you feel having your bright pink hair compared to that of your ancestors"
To which he replied " I don't see the big deal, my Uncle had Blue hair you know. "

I ordinarily would have ignored a question relating to how I draw SNES's hair, because I've been over it again and again and again... But it's been a long, long time since I started answering assk, so I figure now would be a good time to show people that this is how I draw SNES Link, and I don't want any lip about it.

...Besides that, we don't really have any clue what color hair his ancestors had. ( they probably meant the other Links though. )

When I was playing A Link to the Past as a thirteen-year-old kid, I always thought that the pink hair was supposed to be an indication that this Link was a strawberry blonde or light redhead or something, even though the official art didn't provide any evidence to that theory. I had no "scientific basis" for thinking it; really, I believe I just felt that way because I have a thing for reddish hair. :D (Which is kind of weird since I have reddish hair, and I'm not normally particularly attracted to things that remind me of myself. :P ) At any rate, this Link is always strawberry blonde in my old drawings, and it's all because of the pink hair!

Besides, the pink bunny is just *too* adorable.

Right on. I think official art is more of a guideline than anything. So draw Link however you like to see him. I'll admit that I kind of want to see another Link with some hair color other than blonde again. Strawberry blonde would be pretty cool.

Oh, definitely. I had blonde hair as a little kid that darkened over time, but I'm not a big fan of blonde as a hair colour in general just because it's so common on characters. I'd also love to see a return to older Zeldas, where Link and Zelda weren't always blue-eyed bleachy blondes.

Not on his official artwork. His sprite, in a Link to the Past, did have Pink hair.

Most people will tell you that it's due to some kind of hardware limitations, but I have problems swallowing that explanation, since there is a character in game called Flute Boy who has all the correct colors for Link ( they could almost be twins to be honest ) ...So call it what you want.

I just think it's more interesting to draw this particular Link with Pink hair instead of drawing him as yet another Blond Hero.

His sprite did. There are also some images out there of a small Link figure which I'm assuming was made of plastic and resembled his sprite very closely, which I suppose is the closest that we'd get to seeing a 3D render of that design. Of course, the artwork for the game and its sequel didn't resemble the pink-haired Link at all and over time, people became more familiar with the design that resembles the Link from other games more closely.
